Project Brief
The goal of this project was to create our own designer manifestos - or a statment to concisely reflect our views / goals as designers. After finalizing our manifesto, we were tasked with creating a kinetic type animation to showcase our writings.
This project was great practice in being able to write out our thoughts regarding our designs / Design in general, as well as an opportunity to learn motion graphic techniques in Adobe After Effects.
Research
We started our research by reading and taking notes from already existing Design manifestos, such as Herbert Bayer’s “On Typography” and Haakon Faste’s “Posthuman-Centered Design”.
After finding out how other Designers structured their own manifestos, we planned out and wrote our own based on how we feel about the current state of the design world.
Final Manifesto
Design is a contradiction
Design is old and ever the same, yet fresh and ever changing
It’s something that you’ve never seen. It’s something you always see. It’s the cycle of trends that never leave. It’s breaking that cycle and doing what you please. It’s a contradiction.
Design is unique and personal, yet general and accessible
It’s creating from what you know. It’s creating from what others know. It’s your own creative flares and ideas. It’s the guidance from mentors who’ve done this for years. It’s a contradiction.
Design is everything, yet it’s nothing at all.
It’s political posters that change the way you’re aligned. It’s the book cover to a novel you won’t pay any mind. It’s ads that determine what you will and won’t buy. It’s the fliers that you see and give no time.
Design is a contradiction.
And yet, Design is a harmony.
Because design is human.
Design is you.

Final Manifesto
I wanted the final motion design to have an energetic feel tailored to each section. I tried to make sure the viewer had enough time to process what they were reading, while not lingering too long on a single sentence.
